Happy Days..... Laundry Day

Housewives of yesterday had a much harder time doing what was expected than the housewives of today. That is very apparent by the many T.V. shows that are on featuring housewives. The truth is that housewives now days are somewhere in the middle of these two but a whole lot easier than yester year.

Laundry in the olden days was done by hand. Soaking, beating, scrubbing, and rinsing the dirty linens was something that took lots of work. Indoor plumbing was not yet invented and the water had to be carried in, boiled and then the rinsing began. Between 8 to 10 buckets of water were drug in from the pump, well or spring. The water would be reused from the first wash to the last starting with the least soiled clothing.
Soap would be rinsed out with clear water then rolled into a ball, twisted by hand with water being extracted. Laundry would be done one day a week as it would take the entire day to complete.

Today March 3rd would have made many happy as it was on this day that Laundry became easier with Briggs and the first patent for the washing machine
